Child Development

This module introduces students to the field of child studies. Students are introduced to the developmental continuum of young children from birth to school entry. They are to demonstrate the ability to describe this continuum; identify important milestones in young children’s development and relate developmental patterns of young children to their learning.

Patterns of development are also related to play in the learning of young children. They are also to understand and explain why development can occur at different individual rates and link this to adult expectations of young children’s learning.
Finally, they are to explore environmental factors that that may inhibit or enhance the development of young children.
